PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC PHILOSOPHY
MATERIALITY X NARRATIVITY X DIGITAL PRAXIS
MATERIALITY X NARRATIVITY X DIGITAL PRAXIS
Theoretical Foundation
I conceive historic buildings not as inert relics but as intricate cultural manuscripts—complexly inscribed with the social, historical, and material narratives of their communities. Grounded in rigorous academic training in architecture (B.Arch.) and heritage interpretation (Master’s), my work interrogates the reductionist practices prevalent in Bangladeshi conservation. Instead of rendering heritage sites as static repositories, I advocate for an approach that foregrounds their original functional logics and embedded narratives, transforming them into platforms for renewed cultural discourse.
Methodological Approaches
My approach integrates precise technical documentation with nuanced spatial analysis. Employing advanced 3D mapping, photogrammetry, and detailed texture analysis, I capture the multifaceted fabric of a building’s materiality. Complementing this, systematic visitor circulation studies and spatial legibility assessments inform the creation of interpretative routes that articulate a site’s inherent architectural logic and latent semiotic potential. This methodology reconfigures the built environment itself into an active exhibit, capable of communicating both overt and tacit historical narratives.
Integrating Digital and Community-Centric Practices
Central to my practice is the fusion of digital innovation with heritage curation. Through projects like Amar Oitijjho, I deploy augmented reality to overlay contextual historical narratives onto the physical environment, thereby uniting traditional conservation practices with modern digital methodologies. This integration not only enriches the interpretive and sensory dimensions of heritage sites but also foregrounds the voices of underrepresented communities. Additionally, my exploration of AI-enhanced spatial analysis is redefining engagement strategies and impact assessment, ensuring that interventions remain both pioneering and responsive to societal needs.
Impacts of Implementation
At Lalbagh Hammam, my intervention reconfigured misaligned artifact displays to restore the building’s original spatial logic, yielding enhanced visitor engagement and a revitalized sense of cultural functionality. At Rose Garden Palace, a visitor-centered reorganization preserved the site’s layered histories while elevating experiential coherence. In Panam Nagar, by departing from conventional museum models, I fostered a design framework that deepened the experiential connection between the locale and its community, emphasizing the authenticity of its cultural identity.
